Keep Smithville Beautiful (a committee of the Smithville Area Chamber of Commerce) presents the Smithville “Sustainable Home and Garden Show” on Saturday, October 1 from 10 am to 3 pm. Join us to discover how you can invest in home and garden improvements that will also save you money and reduce your home’s impact on the planet. Learn more about xeriscaping, composting, and landscaping for habitat. Get the information you need about rain catchment systems and weatherizing your home. Vendors, speakers, and demonstration projects will make it a fantastic day. Free to attend! Sponsorships are available.

And don’t forget about the “Housing Roundtable” that day from 2 pm to 3 pm at First National Bank (312 Main Street).

Virtual presentations and other resources are available below. Many thanks to our SPEAKERS! They provide a wealth of information and are available for you to contact if you have more questions. Virtual presentations from 2020 and 2021 are archived on this website for even more great information.

The Keep Smithville Beautiful Volunteer Committee thanks our speakers, April Daniels – the magic behind the presentations, the businesses and organizations that will be at the event from 10-3 on October 1, and everyone who is interested in coming out to the event and watching these videos.

And thanks especially to the SPONSORS, who have made the event possible and have provided enough funds to be able to install a sustainable project in Smithville. In 2011, Smithville hosted its first Green EXPO (it was also called the Eco/Photo Fest in 2020 and 2021). The name has changed with time, but the intention of this event has always been to bring resources, ideas, information, goods, and services that will help our community reduce its carbon footprint and make Smithville one of the most sustainable communities in Texas.

This year, we have rebranded the program as the "Sustainable Home & Garden Event" in the hopes of higher participant turnout in the downtown business district. October 1st will be a very busy day, with this event, the Community Wide Garage Sale and Music Festival occurring simultaneously!

In addition to the live event, we have invited speakers on a broad range of topics, such as birding, composting, affordable electric cars, landscaping with native plants, sustainable living, and sustainable building. We truly thank all of our amazing SPEAKERS and the wealth of knowledge and resources they have provided for our community.

Thanks also to the SPONSORS who provide funds for a community-oriented project after the event, the VENDORS who bring such great ideas and stuff to consider, thanks to the DOWNTOWN BUSINESSES for their participation as a Bite Site and Scavenger Hunt location, and the many VOLUNTEERS who make find a way to get everything done in time for a great event! Thanks to City Council member Janice Bruno who is trying to reach 500 voices through her Housing Huddle Series for letting us have a Roundtable at this event. And finally, THANK YOU to Ms. Lisa Prihoda and her art students who have made some truly incredible sustainability-themed artwork for the Event Program and for display at the LPAA Gallery on Main at 206 Main Street.

Please follow KSB on FB for more information about the project and to volunteer if you are interested in joining us. https://www.facebook.com/KeepSmithvilleBeautiful

If you enjoy and learn something from these videos and if you were able to stop by to talk with the vendors or participate in the scavenger hunt, bite sites, or housing roundtable, we hope you will consider making a small donation. All proceeds will become part of the Keep Smithville Beautiful programming for 2023, including a Clean Street program, the Youth Banners, and Sculptures on Main, among others. THANK YOU for helping to keep Smithville clean and beautiful!
